Hi, I'm Shari!

I'm originally from Durban, South Africa. I began studying Fashion at the Durban University of Technology (DUT) in 2006 where I completed my Diploma,  Bachelor's and Master's Degrees. I stayed on to lecture at DUT for a few years.  Throughout my postgraduate studies and ever since, I have worked on various conceptual fashion projects as a freelance costume designer.

In 2012, I moved to Cape Town, South Africa and began lecturing at FEDISA Fashion School.

In 2014, I participated in an international conference focused on Fashion-based research, held at Oxford University. The paper I presented there has been adapted and published in an ebook, and expanded for a printed volume of academic essays.

In 2015, I co-founded a floral design company, Bouwer Flowers, and became it's sole owner and director in 2017. Bouwer specialises in creating bespoke floral styling for weddings and events. While working as a florist, I continued to lecture part-time; externally moderate for both FEDISA and DUT; copy-write for a prominent Cape Town ad agency; and edit textbooks.

After selling Bouwer Flowers, I became a certified  Vinyasa Yoga instructor at a Cape Town yoga studio before relocating to Amsterdam in 2020. Here I continue my work as a freelance florist, costume designer and fashion scholar.
